Together with Till Kufus, we identified that doctors in German hospitals often don't have as much time as they'd like with their patients because they need to spend a lot of time writing doctors' letters. We developed
a back office solution for doctors, called “Medinote”. The software prototype uses AI to create doctors' letters, integrate information, make editing easier, improve collaboration and customise document delivery.
Our research identified the need for a clear, structured interface with familiar components for doctors and explicit affordances. Besides file organization and navigation elements, the key feature is the search bar
and an AI assistant for interaction and refinement. The search bar lets doctors add information directly, while the AI assistant panel provides support with language and supervision.
We created a corporate identity for our brand, Medinote, and drafted a business plan. We developed a pitch deck that won a business simulation competition at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.
Mentored by Google, we explored the technical feasibility and effective application of AI. We learned a lot about the opportunities and risks of the technology in the health industry and our specific use case.
Through partnerships with Charité and Fliedner Klinik Berlin, we observed the procedures for creating doctors' letters at four individual medical facilities and spoke with over 25 healthcare professionals in
Germany. It was shocking to see that the current software couldn't smoothly combine complex information into a coherent document, and its interface slowed doctors down since it wasn't designed for their use.
I think this project is a great example of how we can use software to make a difference in people's everyday lives. Together with Till Kufus, I discovered that doctors in German hospitals often can’t spend as much time with their patients as they'd like. They spend a lot of valuable time each day writing doctors' letters. We started researching for our project with over 25 doctors and four medical organizations in Berlin. Then we developed a software prototype, which we ended up calling “Medinote”.
It is a back-office solution for doctors that uses AI to create doctors' letters, integrating information, streamlining editing, facilitating smart reviews, en-hancing collaboration, and customizing document delivery for each patient.
